Up for sale is a gorgeous and quite rare Christmas 1948 MACY\'S CATALOG, 48-pages long, with illustrations after illustration of Macy\'s clothing, appliances, toys, colognes and perfumes, kitchenware, luggage, etc., etc. for that year. No date inside I could see, but mention on page1 that the Flatbush Macy\'s location opened only \"three weeks ago,\" and that Brooklyn store opened in 1948.
Fantastic graphics with color image of Santa, with map-projected globe as his belly. Staplebound and in VERY GOOD to NEAR FINE condition with only issue being some spotting to the rear cover near the spine, and a bit of it extending to the top left corner of the front cover. But pages are immaculate, with no tears, and just a beautiful example of this meant-to-be-disposed-of catalog, with the iconic Macy\'s Santa on the front cover.
What makes this particular catalog even more intriguing is the address label on the rear cover: it was sent to \"Mr. Dale Carnegie,\" the famous self-help and motivational speaker whose work How to Win Friends and Influence People was one of the biggest-selling books of the 20th century. The address below his name is the address of the home in which he spent his final years in Forest Hills, Queens. Great provenance, and it makes this catalog completely unique.
