A lovely first UK edition of John Steinbeck's classic folk tale,The Pearl.
Published in America1947, the novellais the story of a pearl diver, Kino, and explores man's nature as well as greed and evil. Steinbeck's inspiration was a Mexican folk tale from La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, which he had heard in a visit to the formerly pearl-rich region in 1940.
Complete with uncommon original dustwrapper.
In a full cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper, protected by Brodart warps. Externally, smart with just some light rubbing to boards in places. Dustwrapper is bright with some light rubbing and small marks, some minor closed tears and chips to extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Endpapers browned but text itself very bright with only occasional small spots.
Overall: VERY GOOD INDEEDin a VERY GOOD dustwrapper.
