They were probably made to become gifts and expensive wall hangers. Many of them were engraved with the name of the recipient. They are actually quite playable but the soft metal was easily damaged and if played, worth was soon reduced to only the value of the metal, the actual amount of precious metal however is difficult to determine. American Golf Classics lists the value of the Probst Westpoint Sterling Putter as $1200.00 and having been owned by a famous person could increase its value.
