1952 Farouk Three Bars: Multiple Control Numbers, Intriguing:
Farouk post-abdication three bars Two Blocks of 4 with multiple control numbers The margins are far more interesting than the (very common) stamp. After Farouk’s abdication, the neat political trick was made of making it very visible by putting what looks like jail bars over his face on the most widely used stamps. The Control Numbers on each printing show bureaucracy at work. Historically, they included a European one like “A/50” but in 1947 Arabic was added. New plates showed a cancellation of the original Control Numbers, resulting in the mishmash of these two blocks. Without the mishmash, these corner items are together valued at $35.Scott catlaog nuner 356 (basic stamp)
