Rare and wonderful, original 1952 Baseball World Series Program being the Yankee Stadium version featuring a number of "action", line drawings and a central image of a baseball on the front cover . This outstanding 1952 World Series Program measures approx. 8 1/2" by 11 3/4" and contains 48 pages plus its original, illustrated covers. The included scorecard is scored for Game 4 of the Series in which former Negro League Pitcher Joe Black lost to Yankees "ace" Allie Reynolds 2-0 in a rematch of Game One won by Black.
The 1952 World Series featured the three-time defending champion New York Yankees beating the Brooklyn Dodgers in seven games. The Yankees won their fourth straight title—tying the mark they set between 1936 and 1939 under manager Joe McCarthy, and Casey Stengel became the second manager in Major League history with four consecutive championships. It was the 15th championship in the Yankees' history, and the third defeat of the Dodgers in six years. In Game 7, the Yankees' second baseman Billy Martin made a game-saving catch. Also, the home run hit by Mickey Mantle during the eighth inning of Game 6 was significant because it was the first of his record 18 career World Series home runs.
This rare and wonderful, 1952 Yankee Stadium World Series Program is in very good, original condition. The Program is complete and tight - generally clean and crisp with two small chips at the spine edge of the front cover and some light edge wear to both the front and rear covers. The front cover has a neat, period inscription by the original owner that reads "The Fourth Game / Yankee Stadium / 10/4/52" and "Yankees - 2 / Dodgers - 0". The interior pages are very well preserved - clean and crisp with light edge wear only to some of the pages. As stated above, the Program is scored and was certainly purchased at Game 4 of the Series in Yankee Stadium.
