1954 1st Issue Of Sports Illustrated Magazine W/ Topps Baseballcards Fine++ For Sale

1954 1st Issue Of Sports Illustrated Magazine W/ Topps Baseballcards Fine++

Very rare and highly sought after, original, First Issue of “Sports Illustrated” Magazine in near mint condition and including its original and very rare mailing envelope. This issue includes the uncut sheet of fantastic, full color images of 27 Topps 1954 Baseball Cards including Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, etc. This historic, Premier Issue of Sports Illustrated measures approx. 8 1/4" x 11 1/4" and features an image of the front cover of Milwaukee Braves star Eddie Mathews at bat in Milwaukee County Stadium with New York Giants catcher Wes Westrum behind the plate.

Published on August 16, 1954, this 1st Issue of Sports Illustrated contained a folding insert to illustrate a story about the Baseball Card phenomena. That folding insert which is actually an uncut sheet of twenty-seven, 1954 Topps Baseball Cards (both front and back of each card) printed on paper (rather than card) stock has made this one of the most sought after sports related Magazines of the 20th century.

The Topps Baseball Cards pictured are some of the most valuable from the set. Owning a 1954 Topps Ted Williams or Willie Mays Card in near mint condition (the condition of the insert included in this SI) would cost in excess of $1000 each. This Magazine allows the collector to have period examples of the art work on a number of very valuable Baseball cards at a price that is affordable

This historically important and highly sought after, Premier Issue of Sports Illustrated Magazine is in excellent to near mint condition. It is bound in its original, illustrated paper wrappers which are intact sound and exceptionally well preserved with no edge chipping, edge tears, soiling, staining, significant edge wear, damage or repairs of any kind. There is barely a hint of edge wear to either cover and there is NO address label on either the front or rear cover. The interior pages are complete, tight, clean, crisp and in near mint condition throughout. The tri-fold insert sheet of 1954 Topps Baseball Cards is in near-mint condition - clean and crisp - bright and vibrant with no wear, damage or repairs of any kind. The exceptionally rare, pictorial mailing envelope is intact and sound with some light edge wear as can be seen in the scans below but no significant soiling or staining to the front panel.

A rare and highly sought after, original, August 16, 1954 Premier Issue of "Sports Illustrated" Magazine including the beautiful, folding insert sheet of 1954 Topps Baseball Cards all in near mint condition and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!!
