Very rare and highly sought after, original, First Issue of “Sports Illustrated” Magazine in near mint condition is fully authenticated by Donald M. Elliman, the president of Sports Illustrated itself. The letter of authentication is included inside the red jacket cover, along with the original cards from this issue. All of these items are included in this listing. The LOA is important because this particular issue, being very collectible, has been reprinted. DON'T BE FOOLED BY REPRINTS! This issue includes the uncut sheet of fantastic, full color images of 27 Topps 1954 Baseball Cards including Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, etc. This historic, Premier Issue of Sports Illustrated measures approx. 8 1/4" x 11 on August 16, 1954, this 1st Issue of Sports Illustrated contained a folding insert to illustrate a story about the Baseball Card phenomena. That folding insert which is actually an uncut sheet of twenty-seven, 1954 Topps Baseball Cards (both front and back of each card) printed on paper (rather than card) stock has made this one of the most sought after sports related Magazines of the 20th Topps Baseball Cards pictured are some of the most valuable from the set. Owning an original 1954 Topps Ted Williams or Willie Mays Card in near mint condition (the condition of the insert included in this SI) would cost in excess of $1000 each. This Magazine allows the collector to have period examples of the art work on a number of very valuable baseball cards at a more affordable price. Yet since the production run of this issue was limited to only approximately 600,000 magazines, these cards are far more scarce than their regular Topps wax pack historically important and highly sought after, Premier Issue of Sports Illustrated Magazine is in fine condition. There is barely a hint of edge wear to either cover and there is NO address label on either the front or rear cover. The interior pages are complete, tight, clean, crisp and in near mint condition throughout, except for some razor-edge cutting into the margin on page 38 where the cards were carefully cut and removed for display.
