A MAGNIFICENT SERVICE TO IMPRESS
We are offering for sale a very elegant, 3 piece tea service manufactured by the Reed & Barton Company with the following approximate measurements:
** Hinged Coffee Pot measures 12 inches high and 11.50 inches wide from handle to spout.
**Covered Sugar Bowl measures 8 inches high and 8.50 inches wide from handle to handle.
**Creamer measures 7 inches high at the highest point on the handle and 5.25 inches wide from handle to spout.
This is a stunning service in the popular, “Winthrop” pattern that would make a statement on any buffet or dining table and add a special touch to any dining occasion. You can tell this is a quality vintage service by the heaviness of the pieces.
The body of the tea and coffee service are ornately decorated. The bodies of the pieces have an elongated melon shape. Flowing spouts and handles have been decorated with a scroll design including scrolled thumb rests for easy passing pouring. The four scrolled out feet that each piece rests upon are decorated with a floral and large leaf design. The covers on the teapot and covered sugar are topped with a gorgeous finial decorated with a pumpkin or squash growing along a leafy vine with a pumpkin or squash bloom growing along the side. The service is an impressive one and one that will add a gracious touch to your next dining occasion.
The tea service is in EXCELLENT ESTATE CONDITION. One of the finials is slightly darker than the other. There are however, no repairs, flaking or silver wear to note. The outsides have a mirror like finish and the insides have no rust or pitting. A Tea Service ready to use and impress.
The piece bears the hallmark of Reed & Barton founded in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1824. From 1928 to 1957, the company used symbols to identify their trade mark years for production of items. This gorgeous set was manufactured in 1955, according to its chamber stick mark. The company remains managed by the family members of Henry Reed. It is the oldest independent silver company in America and one of the most distinguished names in the manufacture of silverware items. The pattern number, “1795” and the pattern, “Winthrop” are also indicated on the pieces.This stunning coffee & tea service can be viewed on page 35, plate 72, in the book, “American Silverplate” by Dorothy Rainwater and Donna Felger.
