1956 WHITE HOUSE FRAMED Christmas GIFT
DWIGHT AND MAMIE EISENHOWER PHOTOS WITH SIGNATURES

During his two terms in office, President Dwight Eisenhower established the tradition
of giving framed prints of his own paintings to White House staff members and VIPs. In 1956,
however, fate literally forced his hand into immediate surgery for ileitis. The temporarily
disabled president chose instead a gift portfolio of side-by-side black and white photographs
of himself and the First Lady. A hand-written imprint underneath read,"With best wishes
for a Happy Holiday Season", followed by his signature and Mamie's as well.

The recipient of this print was a White House police officer.

We were fortunate to come by one of the prints actually handed out that festive December
fifty-six years ago! Not only is it a fascinating piece of history thanks to the personal holiday greeting and the Eisenhowers' signatures, it's also embossed on the back with the Presidential Seal and the words, "Season's Greetings, 1956."

Framed in gold-finished wood with cherry stained lip and matted in ivory
Both the right and left frame edges display areas of wear at the top where the gold finish is rubbing off. The top side of the frame also shows considerable wear and scratching in the gold finish. The matte has a slight wave along the top edge. The photo areas are flat. Otherwise,
this mid-century historical/holiday keepsake is wired and ready to hang.
