Please visit our store at the link directly below for HUNDREDS of HISTORICAL NEWSPAPERS on sale or at PHOTO-----COMPLETE, ORIGINALNEWSPAPER,theMacon News (Georgia) dated Jan 19, 1956.This is a pro-racial segregation newspaper containing coverage of the early Civil Rights battles in the South. This issue contains a front page news report of accusations by a Mississippi Civil Rights leader that the FBI under J Edgar Hoover consistently \"...failed to investigate or solve crimes againstNegroes in Mississippi.\"Hoover, of course , denied the charges made by Dr T R M Howard- inckuding the death of Emmett Till !

Theodore Roosevelt Mason \"T. R. M.\" Howard (March 4, 1908 – May 1, 1976) was an American civil rights leader, fraternal organization leader, entrepreneur and surgeon. He was one of the mentors to activists such as Medgar Evers, Charles Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, Amzie Moore, Aaron Henry, and Jesse Jackson, founded Mississippi\'s leading civil rights organization in the 1950s, the Regional Council of Negro Leadership, and played a prominent role in the investigation of the kidnapping and murder of Emmett Till. He was also president of the National Medical Association and chairman of the board of the National Negro Business League.

In the final months of 1955, Howard and his family were increasingly subjected to death threats and economic pressure. He sold most of his property and moved permanently to Chicago. His national reputation as a civil rights leader still seemed secure. He also had a highly visible public dispute with J. Edgar Hoover, whom he accused of slowness to find the killers of blacks in the South.

This took placein the immediate aftermath (within a month or 2) ofRosa Parks refusing to \"move to the back of the bus\" in Montgomery, Alabama in ordre togive her seat up to a White man. Thatepisode resulted in theMontgomery Bus boycot by Negroes andspurred theCivil Rights movement of the 1950\'s and1960\'s eraled by Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. Very interesting perspective on the early Civil Rights Movement as reported in an anti-racial integration, pro-segregation newspaper in Macon, GEORGIA.
