1967 68 69 Gibson Dove Vintage Acoustic Guitar Very Rare Features Nice Player:
Up for a buy it now or best offer is a very unusual 100% original vintage 1960s Gibson Dove, s/n 538900. This guitar has features dating from pre 65 thru 69, and is 100% original as shipped from Gibson, (but not including the repairs). It has the early pre 65, 1-11/16" wide nut width (awesome feeling), it has its original (and near mint Kluson Super waffleback tuners) that were used from 65 to 68, but only on certain examples. The pickguard is the screwed on style used in 67-69, and the guard is in excellent condition with no deterioration, kind of rare! It has the early pre 68 body with no back center strip. The neck is a one piece neck as used in 68 and earlier, not the 3 piece 69 and later version. The truss rod cover is the 62-68 style. This is also Gibson's classic single X braced top, with 2 tone bars and maple bridge plate, not the horrible double X braced version that soon followed, and also the braces on this one seem to be the 62-67 lighter versions. But the bridge is a NON tuneomatic (thank heaven) but still height adjustable 69 style, and the serial number dates it from 69. Anyway, I purchased the guitar from a guy who bought it in the early 70s, tried to learn ho to play, and then gave up. The guitar went into storage without a case, and unfortunately the guitar suffered from climate and humidity changes from poor storage conditions. The guitar has been repaired professionally, and I will go thru what I did. First off, there are NO back, side, bridge or neck cracks and no repairs done on them. The top had 2 cracks running along side of the fingerboard, a couple of tiny ones in the rosette to the sound hole, and one from the sound hole heading towards the bridge. All of the cracks were perfectly aligned, glued/sealed, and braced and cleated as necessary. There were also 2 loose top braces that were re-glued. The guitar has been cleaned, frets leveled and polished and the near perfect fingerboard cleaned and oiled. The neck is laser straight with a solid and perfect neck set, and it plays awesome with low action, which can be lowered more or raised to your liking due to the adjustable saddle. The top for the most part is flat, but with some very slight waves in it. The finish, which is 100% original with no touchups or overspray is also a bit more unusual, as it is natural with walnut back and sides, not the usual cherry, or even more common cherry sunburst. Unfortunately, the finish probably suffered the most during storage and there is some heavy checking on the lower side bouts, and the top front of the headstock, but the back of the neck and headstock, and the top of the guitar are not bad, and show just normal checking for a guitar of this age. So maybe not for the collector who wants mint unworked on guitars, this is a phenominal playing and sounding all original guitar, with, lets just say some "character"! The guitar comes shipped in the generic hard case pictured.Shipping will always be combined when possible!
