About this Book
‘Traditions des Nomades de la Turquie Meridionale’ (Traditions of the Nomads Southern Turkey) is a very detailed account of the traditions of the nomads of southern Turkey covering their conversion to Islam, their customs and beliefs, tree cults, their relationship with domestic and wild animals and family relationships.
The nomads are mainly Yuruks and some of the clans mentioned, among others are the Ali Efendi, Bahsis, Cakallar and Karakecili.
About the Author
Jean-Paul Roux (1925 - 2009) was a French and a specialist in Turkey and Islamic culture.
He was a graduate of “Institute National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales”. He was Director of Research at CNRS from 1957 to 1970, the Science Secretary for the Department of Oriental Languages and Civilizations from 1960 to 1966, and a teacher of Islamic art at École du Louvre.
