(Great Football Poster with a Horror Movie Theme)
OK, viewers, it's not often that I literally rave over how attractive or how cool something is. Why? Because I fully realize people have different tastes and what appeals to one might literally offend another. But ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this football poster is so attractive and so cool it is unbelievable. (It's like the University of Arkansas 1942 football schedule I now have up for offers in another sale...it's so cool that I encourage you to view it...and can almost guarantee that if you get it, you will NOT be disappointed.) The marketing geru who came up with this poster is worth his/her salt, I tell you. One doesn't even have to have any affiliation with the Houston Cougars, (and I don't), to marvel at how great this poster is.
Offered is a 1977 Houston Cougar football poster that was used to sell season tickets. The poster was made like it was a movie poster...with "starring", "featuring", "directed by", etc. Personally I think this was genius. Let's take the title first: "Return of the Cottonmouth Cougars". This title refers to the prior season (1976) when the Houston Cougars went 10-2, won the Southwest Conference, finished ranked 4th in the nation, and went to the Cotton Bowl (which they won). So the Cottonmouth Cougars means the Cougars were looking to return to the Cotton Bowl.
Now, featuring Shasta the Wonder Cat. Shasta was the name of the Cougar mascot at the University of Houston. And look at Shasta in the poster.....Shasta looks mean, hungry, rough-and-tough, and every part the "savage".
Now, directed by Bill Yeoman. Bill Yeoman was the Head Coach at the University of Houston at that time. Therefore, he indeed did direct the entire football season.
Then at the bottom of the poster is listed the Home Games of the Houston Cougars for 1977: they played UCLA at home on September 12, had a home date with the Baylor Bears on October 1, hosted SMU on October 15, entertained University of Texas on November 5, and brought their home schedule to a close finally on November 19 against Texas Tech.
The poster is MINT, as it has never been hung up for display. And the colors, well, the colors are superb; my pictures do not do the poster justice. The size of the poster is a nice big 19 inches by 30 inches. (It has the appearances of being a horror movie poster.) And for those of you who may be wondering....no, 1977proved not a "repeat" of the Cotton Bowl for Shasta and the Cougars. They incurred an "off" year in which they still sported a winning record (6-5).
The poster has been folded twice (the original folds). That is precisely the way it will be shipped to the winning buyer.
Obviously, as one might be able to tell, I am genuinely excited about this piece now up for sale. It's just a terrific piece that's 35 years oldinMINT Condition. If you are a Cougar fan/supporter, and you follow football, then this is one of the few "have-to-have" items. You will not be disappointed with this one!!!
I shall start the sale for this item at $1 for every year it has been around; with it being 35 years old, then I'll start the offerding at $35. (For the buyers, be thankful this was not a poster for the 1966 football campaign!)
Thank you sincerely for viewing my sale site. God Bless!
