19c German Dresden Footed Tea Cup & Saucer Double Snake Handle Meissen Style Nr:
19C GERMAN DRESDEN FOOTED TEA CUP & SAUCER DOUBLE SNAKE HANDLE MEISSEN STYLE NR listing is for a 19th century German porcelain footed tea cup and saucer. The cup has three animal paw feet with a twisted double snake handle, both decorated with heavy applied gold. The cup and saucer both have alternating panels of pink glaze with hand painted floral bouquets and outside scenes with figures. The bottom of the saucer is marked with the conjoined “AR” initial. This Meissen mark was often used by Helena Wolfsohn and Leo Meyer for their porcelain from at least 1846 until past 1876. In theory the Meissen AR mark should have been discontinued after August II died in February 1733.
The cup measures 3 inches or 7.5 cm high to the top rim, and the saucer is 4 inches or 10 cm in diameter.
The cup and saucer are in excellent condition, with minor age appropriate wear to the heavy applied gold. Please see the many photos for more on the look and condition.
