19c German Dresden Porcelain Double Handle Tea Cup & Saucer Meissen Style Nores:
19C GERMAN DRESDEN PORCELAIN DOUBLE HANDLE TEA CUP & SAUCER MEISSEN STYLE NoRES
This listing is for a 19th century German porcelain double handle tea cup and saucer. The cup has a low round foot and a lobed shape body with two scrolling handles and a highly scalloped rim. The cup and saucer have alternating panels of yellow floral decorated panels, and outside scenes with figures. Both pieces are also decorated with applied gold highlights. The bottoms are marked with the conjoined “AR” initial in under glaze blue. This Meissen mark was often used by Helena Wolfsohn and Leo Meyer for their porcelain from at least 1846 until past 1876. In theory the Meissen AR mark should have been discontinued after August II died in February 1733.
The cup measures 3 1/4 inches or 8 cm high to the top rim, and the saucer is 5 3/8 inches or 13.5 cm at its widest.
The cup and saucer are in excellent condition, with minor age appropriate wear to the heavy applied gold. Please see the many photos for more on the look and condition.
