19c Grand Tour French Bronze Of The Horse Tamers Marly Horse After Coustou Nores:
19C GRAND TOUR FRENCH BRONZE OF THE HORSE TAMERS MARLY HORSE AFTER COUSTOU NoRES
This listing is for a French Grand Tour bronze of the horse tamer, also known as a “Marly Horse” after the original sculptures by Guillaume Coustou the Elder(1677-1746). The bronze measures 19 ½ inches or 49.5 cm high, and is 14 ¾ inches or 37.5 cm wide at the base.
The bronze shows the near naked groom reigning in the horse. In his hands he holds the reins of the rearing horse. The wild horse has an animal skin thrown across his back as a saddle.
The color or patina of the bronze is a dark brown. The figures, both the horse and the groom are held to the naturalistic base by a series of hand cut studs and nuts. Please see photographs of the base. The bronze is in excellent condition. There are age appropriate variations in the patina, please see photos.
