19TH C. CHINESE HAND PAINTED LACQUERED FITTED BOX FOR ANTIQUE FAN
This wood box, lacquered on the outside and hand decorated on the inside, once held a Chinese fan. The fitted portion is largely still present though some is missing. The colors inside are still bright and vibrant, no doubt because the box was closed almost all the time and light rarely entered. There is damage to one corner, shown in a closeup. On the bottom of the boxone sees an old paper label and a bright spot in the center which is also paper stuck to the bottom and not missing lacquer. The spot on the far left involves some loss of lacquer. The box is 10 inches long by 2.25 inches wide. It is 2 inches high. Both hinges still work properly, and the catch -center front -still works properly also. Please email with any questions.
