19th C Embroidery Russia Imperial Romanov Coat Of Arms Stumpwork Armorial:
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOS
This is a very impressive piece of embroidery with gold metallic thread, raised stumpwork, paste stones and pearls. Worked on a rich buttery colour background it is the Russian Imperial Coat of Arms - the two headed eagle. It was with some other interesting pieces of embroidery that I am listing, some of which is early 18th century.
The wings are velvet, thecrowns, orb and sceptreare made of gold thread which is raised. It really is a sumptuous piece of skilled embroidery which I imagine dates back at least 100 years years.Condition is good, there are some small splits to the silk background and some losses to the paste stones and raised needlework. Some of the shields on the coat of arms have painted motifs, these have not worn as well as the embroidered parts. A wonderful piece, who knows what it has seen in Russia and for whom it wasmade? Measures 26.5 inches tall by 19 inches across (67cm x 48cm).
Please see my other textiles, this will be sent rolled in a tube.
