19th Century Silver Earrings W/gold Foil Squares From Gujarat For SaleThese 19th century earrings are made from silver with gold foil squares which are wired and clipped onto silver wires for fastening. As earrings the loops would be tied to a head-dress. For a reference see page 137 of "Ethnic Jewellery: From Africa, Asia, and the Pacific Islands". The squares are each slightly under 1 inch and some have bits of red paint or ink on them. From the back of the loops to the front of the squares they are2 1/2 inches. These earrings weigh about 177 grams. One fastening behind the foil squares is disconnected but may be repairable. They are a stunning pair of earrings, and I have never seen anything like them.
