You are offerding on a fine and rare 19th chokwe / ovimbundu people's figural pipe from Angola representing a man feeding his horse, made of exotic wood with blackened decoration, wire bands and metal extremities. Usage traces and a nice amber patina attesting to years of use. Overall goodcondition, head of man possibly replaced but if so this was atribalcontemporary replacement done within the culture. Width is 22.5cm / 8.9in.
Horse representations are exceedingly rare among the ovimbundu, more so of this qualiyt, a rare opportunity to enrich your tribal art collection. Modest reserve.
