DESCRIPTION:Greetings! Thanks for stopping in,at sale here for your Consideration:....19th c. (800-900 SILVER) GORGEOUS ELEGANT SUGAR TONGS LION FACING LEFT HALLMARK....THE TONGS ENDS ARE HALLMARKED INSIDE THE BOWLS, ONE HAS LION FACING LEFT, THE OTHER HAS TWO LETTERS (see photos)....I carefully acid tested these to seewhat if any silver content...I file the edge and applied silver acid test, atfirst the color was lightcream but after a fwe minutes it got almost black, this would indicate it is not sterling but rather a silver alloy with approx. 800-900 parts silver per thousand (see photos of test)...After testing of coarse I polished the tongs to a very high luster shine....they has a very fine hand etched pattern on both sides as you can see in photos here on ...
