A handsome and interesting 19th-century American coin silver shellback teaspooninthe Leaf or Shell pattern. This gorgeous pattern was used by several makers of the period, notably Albert Coles, Wood & Hughes, John Polhamus and Shiebler. The patent date of 1855 stamped to the back of this spoon, along with the word \"Coin\", may indicate that this spoon was made by John Polhamus of New York, N.Y.Stamped \"C.A. Burr & Co.,\" means that it was retailed by this silversmiths\' firm of Rochester, N.Y.To the back of the bowl is a moulded design echoing the leaf or shell pattern moulded to the end of the handle. This refined item remains ingood vintage condition with surface wear consistent with age and prior use, and is engraved in script \"Booth\" to the front of the handle. An important teaspoon from the early days of American flatware! Length: 5 5/8in/14.2cm; W: 19g/0.61 troy oz.
