Mid 19th century Grand Tour bronze miniature of the column in the Place Vendome, Paris surmounted by a statue of Napoleon. The original Vendome column was erected by Napoleon and completed in 1810 to commemorate the Battle of Austerlitz and is modelled on Trajan’s Column in Rome, erected AD 113. It was made from 425 spiralling bas-relief bronze plates made from the melted down cannons captured from the combined armies of Russia and Austria. During the Paris Commune uprising of 1871, the column was pulled down but was re-erected in 1874 and still stands today. This model of the monument measures approximately 8.25 inches (21 cm) tall with a base of 3.5 x 3.5 inches (9 x 9 cm). There is some chipping to the black slate base otherwise in good condition with general surface wear commensurate with age.
