DETAILS OF ITEM
This is a 19th Century Japanese Imari Set of 3 Nesting Bowls that was each hand painted. The largest bowl measures 3.25 inches high by 9.63 inches in diameter while the medium bowl measures 3 inches high by 8.5 inches in diameter and the smallest bowl measures 2.75 inches high by 7.38 inches in diameter. Each was painted with identical designs featuring Chrysanthemums, Butterflies, and the Pine, Bamboo, Plum Blossom trio known as Sho Chiku Bai.
They were heavily potted prior to firing and the all have the double concentric base design, both features that help to identify them to the latter half of the 19thC Edo to Meiji era (circa 1850's to 1890's). The condition is very good and this set weighs 6 pounds before packaging.
