2 Antique English Cooper Bros & Sons Carved Handle Sterling Ferrule Fish Servers For Sale
CLICK on thethumbnail photos above to enlarge for better detail!
For your consideration is a stunning pair of antique English Sheffield Fish Servers by Cooper Brothers & Sons. As one can clearly see they are beautifully crafted with an apparent raised carved floral design on the handles, engraved leaf motif on the blade and pronged fork accentuated by Sterling Silver ferrules. As we are not experts, we do not know what the handles are made of, though believe they may be carved. They are both clearly marked on the ferrules with the Cooper Brothers & Sons Sheffield hallmark dating these lovely pieces to 1907. The blade only is also clearly marked with EP along with CBS denoting the blade is Electroplated as is the 5 tined Forks head. The electroplated blade and the tined fork areas have what I would consider minor wear for their age though still visible. The carved handle of the fork has a separation to the handle from the ferrule along the length of the handle about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches long which does not appear to detract from the functionality of the piece in any way. These detailed descriptions certainly do not detract from the general aesthetics or functionality of the set and are only mentioned for accuracy. one may say they have weathered the many years extremely well and are in very good condition for their age. Please review the photographs carefully as they are also part of the description. These treasures measure approximately as follows:
Fish Blade Server - 12 3/4 inches longest point x 2 3/8 inches widest point of blade
Fish 5 Tine Fork - 9 5/8 inches longest point x 2 inches widest point of fork
The firm, Cooper brothers & Sons was founded in 1866 in Sheffield as Cooper Bros. In a directory of 1871 their address is given as 14½ High Street and they are described as manufacturers of electro-plated and nickel silver spoons and forks. By 1876 the firm was in Bridge Street and in 1885 they purchased the Arundel Street works where they remained until 1983. In 1895 the business became a limited liability company under the name of Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd. In 1983 the business was acquired by Frank Cobb & Co. Ltd
