2 Antique Sterling Silver 5 1/2" Tall Column Shape Candlesticks Dated 1907:
Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Octagonal Column Shape Candlesticks from Sheffield dated 1907
Both candlesticks are made from sterling silver with square raised relief step decorated bases that have octagonal column shaped upper bodies and they have shaped tops or candle sconces, the bases of both candlesticks have been filled or weighted for stability and they have green felt or baize linings on their undersides to stop the candlesticks from scratching the surface that they are placed upon, the candlesticks have a combined weight of 418.7 grams and they have Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, the back edge or rim of each base has been impressed with an English Registered Design Number Rd No 450348 and the front edge or rim of each base has been impressed with matching full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows,
J.D &S - Crown - Lion Passant - stylized P
J.D&S is the Sheffield silversmith or makers mark of James Dixon &Sons Ltd, the Crown is the mark of the Sheffield assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver and the stylized letter P is the date letter for 1907.
Please Note that any dark shadows in the images of the candlesticks are just reflections of the camera or surroundings that could not be avoided during photography.
Thecondition is used and fairly good for their age.
TheCandlesticks have No Large Dents, No Splits, No Cracks andNo Repairs that I can find, the candlesticksstand straight, the decoration and definition is crisp, the silver hallmarksare still clearly legible although as this is a used pair of antique candlesticks they both have some small dents around their bodies along with some small polishing wear holes in the exposed edges of their bases and they have some surface marks and wear from use, they have the patina of age that is to be expected and agentleclean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this pair of antique candlestickscan still be used today and that they would make a good addition to any collection, I also think that they would look superb in the correct setting with lit candles in them and that they have a delightful look about them considering that they are almost 110 years old.
This Delightful Pair of EdwardianSterlingSilver Octagonal Column Shape Candlesticks from Sheffield dated 1907 are some of several pieces of antique and collectable silver that I have also listed.
