Gorgeous pair of antique/vintage Petit Point/Needlepoint custom made pillows. ~ These look wonderful together ( as seen in the pictures.) Wonderful petit point handwork, old and very well made. Look closely at the stitches in and around the flowers etc... you don\'t see the stair-step stitches that you see in mass produced needlepoint and petit point decorator pillows. Both pillows are also much larger than you would normally see, measuring 20\" X 20\", Tassel fringe not included in measurements. I purchased these from an estate, the man was a well known retired surgeon. I wish I had pictures of his home, it was amazing! He and his wife traveled the world collecting the finest antiques and paintings. I believe both pillows were custom finished. The backing is a wonderful dusty raspberry/pink in a very subtle floral patterned damask. Backing fabric is the same on both pillows. The edge is finished in a multi color tassel trim that coordinates with the color scheme within the flowers ( trim is the same on both pillows.) Under the tassel trim the pillows are also finished in a corded trim, the same fabric as on the back. Please see pictures of the background canvas, this is not completely filled in as you see in the newer needlepoint pillows. Also take notice of the older metal zipper, both in excellent working condition. There are inserts that are included. However, these are older and have some age marks. The fabric used on the inserts is a very good quality. I believe that the inserts are a down blend, this is great as it helps keep the shape of the pillow. Please know that this is only an educated guess, I am not 100% sure. However, I do believe that I am correct. Please also note that there are some age marks on the mesh background. I believe these can be dry cleaned which I believe would remove the marks. If interested and these age marks bother you then please do some research on how to remove prior to offerding. I actually would leave them as is, I personally like that they show age and are not brand new looking. The backing fabric is in excellent condition and gorgeous! The tassel trim is very pretty however, there must have been some loose or pulled threads in the loops. It appears to me that these may have been trimmed as I do see some loops that are not complete. You really need to look closely to see this. I looked on the inside and it looks to me like the tassel trim has been attached by hand. The trim is hand stitched so that it can be easily removed for cleaning. Please look carefully to see how many different colors are used in just one flower. This is just another indication of quality work. Each flower as well as the leaves have at least 5 or more shades of color. The first pillow has (8) good size flowers and 3 clustered line flowers. Wonderful large leaves and other sprigs which make up this amazing floral bouquet. The colors and leaf style reminds me of vintage barkcloth fabric. The colors that are in the flowers are raspberry, several shades of pinks, pale lavender, vintage yellows, creams, ivory, some brown used as shading and various shades of green. The colors and shading make the flowers and foliage so real looking. I\'ve also noticed that what looked to be staining could be more of aged coloring in the background. This may in fact just be the age spots. I believe it is also from the age marks on the inserts. Both pillows are wonderful pieces of history that you don\'t want to miss out on. The second pillow is exactly the same as the first except for the needlework design and colors. The design is a large cream and greenish colored flower with additional flowers added to make this also a bouquet of flowers. There is an additional 3 very pretty flowers along with buds and several line flowers. I believe the 2 at the top are wisteria in wonderful shades of pinkish raspberry that coordinates with the colors used in the first pillow. This pillow also has several different leaves in various shades of green. Again, there are some age marks on the outside canvas as well as the insert. They are faint and I believe they would wash out. The very tiny and intricate stitches that make up the design in these petit point pillows are just breathtaking. Both are stitched on a double thread canvas also know as Penelope. This canvas is one of the older canvases that takes skill to work on. It allows for smaller, intricate stitches as used in Petit Point work. Please see all pictures, as they are part of the descriptions.
