2 Leaves With A Beautiful Red "t" Symbol Arabic Islam Furad Wajibah Manuscript For Sale
First of all, these two leaves have two (2) instances of the large "T" design or symbol, which is known as "taa' marbuu tah," and it consists of three vertical columns and two wavy ornate horizontal strokes, and this symbol indicates the beginning of a new subject or section of the text. However, one of these "T" designs has been hand-colored with RED ink (see the first two scanned images). This has unique beauty! A piece of GREEN paper has been placed under each side of the two leaves during the scans, so that the scanned images show the parts of the leaf that are missing.
The sale is for two (2) leaves of an Arabic handwritten manuscript (with writing on both sides), consisting of the Arabic treatise entitled "al Furad al Wajibah" or sometimes transliterated as "al Furat al Wajibah," which means "The Necessary Religious Duties" or "The Obligatory Religious Duties." Thisis an important work in the Shafi'i interpretation of Islamic law. This particular handwritten manuscript dates to the late 17th century or the early 18th century. The size is about 5 in.x about 8 in.Each of the sides has seven lines of beautiful text. Also, there are several marginal commentaries, written later by a different hand (see the scanned images). The manuscript is written in clear and handsome Naskhi/ruq'ah calligraphic script, in black ink, according to the style of Arabic writing used in Indonesia. Thetext is written on hand-made traditional paper called "daluang" or "saeh," which is made from the bark of the saeh tree (Broussonetia papyfera) in Indonesia.You can see the wood fibers on the edges. This leaf hasdiscoloration and stain, dueto its use and age; the outer edges of the leaf are also wrinkled and torn, but the text is very legible. Also, most leaves have some book-worm holes.
