2 NEAT ENGLISH SILVER 1873 DETACHABLE HANDLES TRAVEL SET FORKS

Presented is a fine pair of sterling silver forks from the late 19th centurythat were probably part of a travel set. One of the forks is a dinner fork, while the other is slightly smaller. Both the fork ends unscrew from the handles. The tip of the handle of the larger fork is also removable. This handle is hollow so that either of the smaller handles can fit inside for compact storage. Everything is sterling silver except the fork end of the dinner fork which is silver plate. The dinner fork is engraved with a pond scene with a lily pad floating at the center and cattails on either side. Two of the handles are monogrammed SPC at the center. The third is monogrammed WMC. All three handles a beautiful engine turnings/engravings.

The handles are hallmarked on the tip with the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter s for 1873, and the maker\'s mark JB. They are also marked on the handle itself with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard\'s head for London, the date letter s for 1873, Queen Victoria\'s head, and the maker\'s mark JB.

The silver plated fork end is marked with the maker\'s mark for Elkington, Mason & Company. The other fork end is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard\'s head for London, the date letter r for 1872, and the maker\'s mark GA for George Adams.

The forks are in great condition. There is a tiny dent on the WMC monogrammed handle directly over the monogrammed, but this is extremely minor. The handles and the fork ends screw into place very tightly. There are no other dents, no breaks, no repairs, and no other problems of any kind.

The dinner fork measures 8 inches in length. The smaller fork measures 7 3/4 inches in length.

The total weight of the sterling silver parts of the set is 98.3 grams, 3.4 ounces, or 3.2 troy ounces. This weightincludes the three handles and the smaller fork end. It does not include the silver plated dinner fork end.
