2002 George Rodrigue "blue Dog" Blue Aluminum Mardi Gras Doubloon--1st Year For Sale
Here'sthe2002Krewe of Argus"RODRIGUW BLUE DOG" Blue AluminumDoubloon (First Ever Blue Dog Doubloon). The obverse featuresthe Argus Logo. The reverse features George Rodrigue's Famous 'BLUE DOG'and reads mm or 1 1/2" Payment due within 48 hours of purchase.Note: These SpecialDoubloon's were made for and issued exclusively by Famed Louisiana Artist, George Rodrigue during the 2002 Krewe of ArgusMardi Gras Day Parade in Metairie, LA. The doubloon is undated but it was issued in 2002. That year, the Krewe of Argus introduced to the Parade-Going Public, a new float designed to resemble the Rodrigue Blue Dog and aptly named the "Blue Dog Float." As an additional surprise, George Rodrigue was riding aboard the float and tossing these "Blue Dog" doubloons to eager parade spectators. The Blue Dog Float was so well received by the Argus Krewe Members and the Parade-Going Public that it has appeared in every parade since then. However, Mr. Rodrigue has not ridden on the float and the Blue Dog Doubloons, while still issued, have taken on a bit of a commercial nature, featuring certain business establishments which will pay to have them minted. This doubloon however is the original doubloon that was issued back in 2002 by George Rodrigue himself!
