In a world where Les Paul players are usuallythe ones gloating over their custom appointments and figured woods, this SGSupra launches double-cutaway and SG aficionados into the gorgeously flamedstratosphere, with a beautifully attired, custom-equipped SG that is ready totake on anything that steps in front of it
Thisparticular Gibson SG Supra is a special, one-of-a-kind prototype that was givento a Gibson employee as a bonus. The employee didn’t actually play guitar, and thusthis one has never been played. It’s for this reason that we have graded thisbeautiful guitar very conservatively in NEAR MINT condition, when in fact this is as close to a MINT guitar as we\'ve ever had!
WheneverGibson builds any new model, usually several prototypes are built for approval bycompany CEO Henry Juszkiewicz. When Gibson engineers began work on the SG Supramodel, they made two prototypes – one with gold hardware (the one you see here)and the other with chrome/nickel hardware. The original two prototypes also featuredthe original inlay that was used exclusively for the Gibson Les Paul Supreme, whichsports a gorgeous Abalone Pearl inlaid globe with a banner across the globe thatreads “Supreme.” The prototype with the gold hardware – which is this oneoffered here for sale – sports the original Les Paul Supreme inlay with \"Supreme\" in the banner, while the otherprototype (the one eventually picked for production) sported the Les PaulSupreme inlay, but with the model name “Supra” in the banner instead of “Supreme.” This gold prototype also has a one-of-a-kind truss-rodcover with the name “Supra” engraved on it, and exceptionally elegant gold fretwire! The production models produced by Gibson USA today do not haveany of these features.
Additionally,all the SG Supra models made produced today pair a AAA-grade Maple top with a AA-gradeMaple back beneath its nitro finish. However, this incredible one-of-a-kind gemof a prototype sports an absolutely gorgeous AAAAA-grade very highly flamed Mapletop and back, which is accented perfectly by its brilliant gold hardware – alsoincluding the brilliant gold fret wire! Along with its upgraded top and hardware, this rare SGSupra also features all of the usual elegant mother-of-pearl and abalone inlaysand multi-bound headstock for truly “showpiece-quality” looks.
Everythingelse on the guitar is exactly as it is on the current SG Supra model. It is loadedwith three ’57 Classics, one of Gibson USA’s most popular humbucker pickups,plus a piezo-loaded Fishman Power Bridge that produces some of the most authenticacoustic-like tones known to man! To top it all off, unbridled playability isensured by a sublimely comfortable yet fast neck profile and a 24-fretfingerboard – accented beautifully with the gold fretwire!!!
Oneother REALLY cool feature on this SG Supra is a very cleverly designed “TogPot”,which basically makes the knob on the three-way pickup selector switch thevolume/blend knob for the guitar’s middle pickup! This, of course, lets youblend in the middle pickup as desired – with or without the Fishman piezo –which then enables you to dial in a myriad of sonic possibilities. To anchor itall down, Gibson also loads in a traditional stopbar tailpiece, with a set ofgenuine Grover locking tuners. Add it all up and this very specialone-of-a-kind prototype SG Supra is undoubtedly one of the best-looking andmost outrageous-sounding SGs ever created.
Alltogether this is without a doubt one of the finest looking and most versatile SGsto come down the pike since the iconic double-cutaway design hit the scene morethan 50 years ago. This beautiful and very rare one-of-a-kind prototype SG isjust as ready to be the centerpiece of any serious collection, as much as it isready to rule any stage and/or studio no matter what kind of music youplay.
Theguitar comes complete with its original black Gibson USA hardshell case, aswell as information on how to work all the controls.
