20s Churro Teec Nos Pos Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Textile For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1920s beautiful old Navaho
weaving that measures 6 feet long by 3 foot 4 inches wide or 72” x 40”. It is attributed to the Teec Nos Pos weaving
area and is in very good+ condition. It
was handwoven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native
handshorn, handcarded and beautifully handspun old long staple Churro sheep
wool, both weft & warp. Here is a
gorgeous old Teec Nos Pos with an outstanding early design. There are 2 anthropomorphic geometric figures
in the center field surrounded by a reciprocal tulip inner border. The outer border is a great linked diamond
motif with tiny red diamonds filling each link.
Old Teec weavings of this caliber are hard to come by.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on
a rug hunt in Arizona just to offer to you here on . It has a fine, smooth weft count averaging 30
per inch and a warp count of 8 per inch.
The selvage cords are all in good condition with 54” of 224” replaced
and there is a ½” x 3” reweave along one edge.
Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral
cords. The corners are all four tight
and in very good condition with 2 corners having a ½” x 1” reweave. The tassels
are all four restored to excellent condition.
It is pretty clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. There are a couple of 1” light spots or
stains and a smaller 3/8” stain along with a little very faint bleed in a few
spots around the diamond link border. Both
sides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are great in this piece of old
American Indian art and they are: hand
carded & hand blended natural grayish brown, dark chocolate brown &
ivory white along with hand dyed aniline turkey red & burnt orange. Complete with lazy lines, this example of
Indian Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck
away in your private rug & blanket collection.
