20s Red Mesa Outline Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Gorgeous For Sale
Offered here is a
circa 1920 zippy old Navaho weaving that measures 5 feet 10 inches long by 3
foot 5 inches wide or 70” x 41”. It is
attributed to the Red Mesa, Arizona weaving area and is in very good to
excellent condition. It was handwoven by
an advanced expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn,
handcarded and superbly handspun silky old long staple Churro and high quality
Merino sheep wool, both weft & warp.
Here is a terrific old Red Mesa Outline weaving with a great variegated
grey field. Running full length of the
grey field are very finely outlined serrated zigzag lightening bars. A fine red & white sawtooth side border
and end stripe separates the field from the stunning bold black outer border
which is lined with small grey centered red crosses. A dandy old Red Mesa.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on
a rug hunt in Colorado just to offer you here on . It has a fine weft count averaging 34 per
inch and a warp count of 8 per inch. The
selvage cords are 100% intact and excellent condition with 3 breaks repaired
and 12” replaced at the corners with the tassel restorations. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight and in excellent condition. One tassel is original and
excellent, 2 tassels have been restored and 1 has been half-restored to very
good. It has is clean now & comes
from a non-smoking home. There is a very
small reweave at 1 corner 3/8” x 8” and there is very slight sun fade
(principally of the red) on one side towards one end. Both sides are even in pattern color and
shown in photos above. Colors are great in
this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural
beautifully variegated steel gray to brownish grey, black, ivory white &
chocolate brown along with hand dyed aniline turkey red, lemon yellow and
overdyed black. Complete with lazy
lines, this example of exciting Native Americana is ready to display in your
own hacienda or just tuck away in your private rug & blanket
collection.
