25-35 Crystal Revival Serape Navajo Blanket Native American Indian Rug Churro Nr For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1925-1935 Navaho weaving that measures 4 feet 10 inches long by 3 foot 2 inches wide or 58” x 40”. It is attributed to the Crystal Trading Post weaving area and is in very good condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and nicely handspun long staple Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. Here is an old Revival Serape with a center panel with opposing strips of raspberry red diamond lines with small attached white triangles. The two quarter panels each have 6 serrate diamond stars. The design panels are separated by complex compound stripe panels.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on a rug hunt in Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a nice, even weft count averaging 26 per inch and a fine warp count of 10 per inch. The selvage cords are: ends in original excellent condition, side cords are in good to very good condition with 30” replaced and several breaks repaired. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are all four restored and now in excellent condition. It is fairly clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. There are 6 small blue stains in one corner. These show strong on one side and faint on the other. In one white zone there is a circular spot or stain 1” in size that shows only on one side. (see photo) The reds on one side are a little brighter than on the other side. Both sides are shown in photos above. Colors are great in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural tannish brown, camel gold, light camel tan, dark chocolate brown & ivory white along with hand dyed aniline sunshine orange, light green and raspberry red. Complete with lazy lines, this example of Native Americana is ready to head your way.
