Novum Lexicon Graeco-Latinum in Novum Testamentum.
Congessit et variis observationibus philologicis illustravit Ioh. Fried.
Schleusner. Tomus I-II, Complete.
Schleusner, Johann F. Lipsiae, in Officina Weidmanniana, 1792.
edition set of this lexicon to the New Testament, Greek-keyed with Latin
explanations and synonyms, reference to Hebrew words, and occasional
Syriac and Arabic. Numerous examples are noted, citing original chapter
and verse. Together with Pasor (1619) and Schöttgen (1746) it ranks
among the few lexica of high authority dedicated to New Testament Greek
only, and is still serviceable. It formed the source to which much of
19th century theological interpretation and controversies reached back.
Johann Friedrich Schleusner, 1756-1831, was professor of theology at
Göttingen 1790, afterwards, Doctor and Professor of Theology and Second
Director of the Theological Seminary at Wittenberg. Books slightly worn at
edges, else in fine shape, housed in a custom leather and cardboard case made to look like a book, complete with raised bands and gilt titling as shown. Set consists of 2 volumes. Complete; xvi, 1175, (1 blank) pp.; (2), 1290
pp. Finely bound contemporary gilt ruled half calf with dual title labels and gilt ruled bands to the spines. Engraved
vignette on title-pages. Internally clean and sound, only slight
browning. Very good set of a rare standard reference work. Each volume measures 8.5" x 5.5" x 3"; the set in the case measuring 6" x 9" x 5.5". A demanding shelf presence. Good luck!
