3-weight Biedermeier Vienna Regulator Pie Crust Bezel Circa 1850:
3-WEIGHT BIEDERMEIER VIENNA REGULATOR Clock
3-WEIGHT BIEDERMEIER VIENNA REGULATOR
Signed Jolcf Filcher in Wien
This is a FANTASTIC project clock.Clocks like this are VERY hard to find. I just do not have the time to complete all of the projects I have. When I found this one it was just too good to pass up. Fresh from a local estate is a 3-weight Biedermeier Vienna Regulator. Appears to be signed Jolcf Filcher in Wien. This clock is circa 1850-1860.
This is what some call a blind man's clock. It strikes every 15 minutes. When it strikes, it tell you what quarter hour it is on one tone, then on a different tone it strikes the hour. For example 8:30 would be two strikes on the first tone indicating two quarters after the hour. Then on the second tone it would strike 8 times for the hour. ou never have to look at the dial to tell the time. Just count the strikes.
It has the original carved top and a nice piecrust bezel around the dial. There are a few hairlines in the dial but they do not detract from the beauty of the clock. The case is rose wood veneer and is in very good condition. It also has a key lock door. The lock is in good condition but I do not have the key. They are easy to make. I also don't have a winding key. The pendulum is in very good condition and is brass backed. Original rating nut and suspension too. It was missing the three pulleys so I put on some replacements so I could hang the weights for the pictures. While taking the pictures it ran for about 5 minutes. Both strike trains ran when the minute hand was moved. The minute hand needs adjusting. All the glasses were broken and the bottom finial is missing. Movement is dirty and will need cleaning. It is complete and ticks and strikes. There is a whole in the side of the case to run a pull repeat string through. This will make a great addition to any collection. I promise it will be worth many more times the price when restored. Don't miss this opportunity. Biedermeier project clocks don't come along very often.
