30s Crystal Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Textile Weaving Nr For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1930s Navaho weaving that measures 4 feet 2 inches long by 2 foot 10 inches wide or 50” x 34”. It is attributed to the Crystal Trading Post weaving area and is in good condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and nicely handspun Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. Here is a good old Crystal weaving woven in a banded and 3 design panel layout. The 3 design panels are multiple chevron motifs in their layout. These panels are separated by compound stripes. Just a nice old weaving that shouldn’t be too very difficult to fix up if desired. (Sometimes our ‘fix-it’ pile just gets too big & we are also doing spring ranch/farm work, so we are offering a few pieces “as is” this week.) .
We obtained this vintage Native American textile from one of three big collections we obtained in Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a smooth, even weft count averaging 28 per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The selvage cords are: end cords are fair with missing cord but warp loops are very good and the side cords have all been removed (possibly for replacement sometime in the past. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are all four in very good condition. The tassels are all missing. It is fairly clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. There is one hole 1 ½” x 2 ¼” near one corner. The weft loops where the side selvage cords have been removed appear to be mostly in good condition to accept new side cords. Both sides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are very nice in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural grayish brown, camel tan, light grayish tan, dark chocolate brown to black & ivory white along with hand dyed aniline rusty red. Complete with lazy lines, this example of Native Americana is ready to head your way.
