30s Natural Churro Teec Nos Pos Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1930s Navaho weaving that measures 4 feet 8 inches long by 2 foot 11 inches wide or 56” x 35”. It is attributed to the Teec Nos Pos weaving area and is in very good condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and nicely handspun old long staple Churro crosssheep wool, both weft & warp. Here is a nice old natural colored Teec Nos Pos weaving. The grayish brown field is full of bold geometric and feathered wing motifs with a centered serrated diamond motif. The side borders are a fine stepped meandering motif with feathers all along and attached to the brown peaks.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on a rug hunt in Arizona just to offer you here on . It has an even, smooth weft count averaging 26 per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The selvage cords are 100% intact and excellent condition with 6” of end cords replaced and 2 breaks repaired. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are: one original & excellent, one half restored & excellent, one half restored with other half short to the knot & one short to the knot. It is fairly clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. The weaving has some sun fade on one side that makes the dark brown to black have more of a lighter brown color. Either side looks great by itself though. (One way to even it out is display the brighter side more over the years until it mutes as well!) There are a couple of ¾” or smaller reweaves. Both sides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are nice in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural grayish brown, dark chocolate brown to black and ivory white. Complete with lazy lines, this example of Native Americana is ready to head your way. (1800QBEZ)
