30s Tight Woven Ganado Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Churro For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1930 Navaho weaving that
measures 4 feet 10 inches long by 3 foot 4 inches wide or 58” x 40”. It is attributed to the Hubbell Trading Post
– Ganado, Arizona weaving area and is in excellent condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a
primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and tightly handspun
long staple Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. Here is a gorgeous old red field Ganado with
a bold stepped meandering full field medallion. In all four corners are coiled
S motifs. Black & white triple cross
motifs float in the side fields along the black chisel tooth side borders. It is no surprise that this red field beauty
is Pepito’s Pick of the week! (Burro not
included in sale).
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on
a rug hunt in Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a tight, even weft count averaging 28
per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch.
The selvage cords are all in original excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. Two tassels have been
restored to excellent and 2 are original and excellent. It has not been cleaned, fairly clean now
& comes from a non-smoking home. There
are 3 or 4 small 1” to 1 ½” light soiled spots and the whites should brighten
with a wash later on. No evidence of any
bleed or moth damage. Both sides are
even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are great in this piece of old
American Indian art and they are: hand
carded & hand blended natural light grey & ivory white along with hand
dyed over-dyed black and strong cardinal red (deeper than the camera
depicted…with no orangey tint either.) Complete
with lazy lines, this example of vintage Indian Native Americana is ready to
head your way.
