What a rare find! Available for purchase is a pair of antique doors salvaged from a monastery in Thailand. Each door is made of solid teak, and has an impressive arrangement of 13 raised panels. The doors come "pre-hung" in their original, 3-sided teak frame.
Many double doors have an astragal (divider strip or stop molding) to cover the gap at the point where the 2 doors meet in the center. However, the inner sides of these doors are shiplapped (rabbeted).
We acquired the doors from someone who had them stripped for a renovation project, which fell through. They were to be painted, so he didn\'t have them completely stripped. There are still some spots that have stain. Unless you plan on painting the doors, you or us (email us for a quote) will have have to finish stripping them.
Hardware: Aside for 10 copper-plated steel, steeple-tip hinges, the doors do not come with any hardware. However, we have plenty of hardware to outfit the doors--check out our store.
Considering that there are no holes for knobs, handles, or locks, I\'m assuming that these doors were opened and closed by hand and never locked.
Condition: The doors are strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition, but they do have some cosmetic blemishes (see photos for details).
On the exterior side, the door on the left has a 37" and 14" vertical crack stemming from the bottom edge of its lock stile, and another 14" crack stemming from the bottom of its hinge stile. There is also a 3" crack in the bottom panel, which stems from the top Stemming from the top of the lock stile, there is a 32" vertical crack. As for the door on the right, there is 5" vertical crack stemming from the bottom of the lock stile, and another 24" crack in the center of its hinge stile. There is also an 8" horizontal crack stemming from the right edge of the bottom panel.
On the interior side, the door on the left has a 8" crack near one of its hinges and a small break in one of its pieces of panel molding. On the right door, there is a 24" vertical crack in the middle of its hinge stile.
The cracks are only surface deep and are not structurally threatening. They could be filled with wood putty/filler prior to staining or painting.
There is a break in the frame which we could repair along with the small break in the molding--email us for a quote.
Refinish/Repaint:We could refinish, repaint, or completely strip the doors to prepare them for you to repaint or refinish.See the last photos in this sale as an example of our work.Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we\'ll give you a quote.
Modification: We could also modify these doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make casing, sidelites, trim or add to the height or width, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we\'ll give you a quote.
