#31 POLAND POLISH ORDER OF THE VIRTUTI MILITARI, #3290, 5th class,superb Silver gilt and enamels.Awarded to Kanonier Antoni Nowak attached to the 7TH DAK Regiment during the Polish Soviet War on February 18th 1922. Very rare to this regiment.The VM is Poland\'s highest award for personal valor equal in stature to the American Medal of Honor or the British Victoria Cross. For details on the Virtuti Militri (Military Virtue) see THE POLISH ORDER OF THE VIRTUTI MILITARI AND ITS CAVALIER, 1792-1992 published in 1992. This exmple is one of the 8,500 awarded before WWI and the about 1,500 in exile during WWII by the Polish Government in London. There were only 9,999 numbered cross made and awarded. For those not familiar with Polish History, these WWI recipients also fought in 1939. Thousands were killed. At KATYN, 22,000 Polish officers and NCOs were murdered by the Soviets.  Mounted on a new replacement ribbon.
