On offer is this superb antique English sterling silver trophy loving cup and cover bearing the hallmarks for London 1840 and the makers mark of John and George Angell. The trophy loving cup and cover is of very large size and the weight is substantial. The overall height is 18.7 \" , the diameters are , base , 6.1 \" , cup top 8.9 \" and the handle width is 11 \" . The weight is an impressive 2894 grams , 93.05 troy ounces.

The design is excellent , the whole a pleasure to behold. The heavy cover, just over 870 grams, 28 troy ounces, is made in eight segments, an upper eight and a lower eight, each gently curved .The upper eight finish in the centre of the cover with a flat plate formed as leaf strewn ground on which sits a greyhound, one front paw raised .The lower eight flow down to the cover rim and finish in a glorious rolling foliar and floral band.

The cup body is of baluster form , the upper parts smooth and unadorned apart from the squat handles formed as tree trunks .The upper ends are fixed to the cup body with oak leaf and acorn fixings. The lower ends finish with stylised foliar plates resting on the bulbous part of the lower cup body. The lower body is formed in like manner to the cover , with eight gently curving segments , each with stylised foliage creeping upwards through them. The robust stem has a large knop decorated with a running foliar band. Below this the stem is of smooth finish , flowing out to the eight segmented base with a running foliar band forming the base rim. The whole is absolutely wonderful , a splendid display piece.

There is no inscription on this trophy loving cup , so you can display it as it is or have your own dedication inscribed thereon.

The whole is in EXCELLENT CONDITION and is beautifully polished ready to go on display.

For your guidance , I use the words \" EXCELLENT CONDITION \" only if it is ........., \" GOOD CONDITION \" to indicate that there are no serious condition problems , but that there may be surface blemishes such as light discolouration , minor dings , dents or scratches commensurate with the age of the piece.............. I use the words \" REASONABLE CONDITION \" to indicate that there are blemishes and dings ,dents, creases , scratches , ripples etc . Under this condition category I will always qualify such defects , but please ask if you want any clarification of damages to any given piece.
