The most famous Kunzite ring was a 47 carat ring thatPresident John F. Kennedy purchased for his wife, Jackie. He never had achance to give it to her, sadly, and it sold for more than $410,000 at aSotheby’s sale after her death.Kunziteis a very recently discovered gemstone. In fact, it was discovered at thePala tourmaline mine in northern San Diego County. G.F. Kunz (1856 – 1932), a gemologist,discovered it at the turn of the 20th century. Kunz was a buyer forTiffany & Co. who first described this gem in 1902. Kunzite, herealized, was the pink-violet family member to yellow-green Hiddenite. Both arefrom the Spodumene Family. It is a rare stone, and we’re fortunate it wasdiscovered here, in the USA!

Kunzite is pleochroic, meaning there is a colorintensity variation when the stone is viewed from different directions. The topand bottom are where the deepest colors will be found. Depending on the anglethat you move the Kunzite, it can show a strong violet, a light violet andlight green as it is moved one way or another. This is called \"pleochroism\"which indicates a multicolor or variable hues will be seen in this gemstone. Kunziteis believed to help transform \"lower forms of our emotions\" andrefine them into something higher and more healthy for us. Jealousy andenvy are examples of lower forms of emotion.
