4 Rare Antique Small Mystery Dolls: Colonial Man Bisque Girl 2 Wooden Miniatures For Sale

Welcome to our sale! Many of you know us as longtime collectors and sellers of antique and vintage Holiday memorabilia, paper ephemera, antique dolls and toys, and lovely old china and glassware. For your consideration, we present a very interesting lot of four small antique dolls and we welcome information from other collectors about them! Their makers are a bit of a mystery to us and we have never seen anything like them before!

The largest doll appears to be made from composition and he has painted shoes, legs and facial features, and he wears hand-painted glasses. His three-cornered hat has a hook at the top, so perhaps he was an old ornament. We are unsure of the age of this doll; however, his original clothclothing is very old but in great condition, although there is some fading on the back. This colonialgentleman has a few paint rubs, some crackling and he is missing a thumb. He measures 7 ½” tall.

The darling little all-bisque doll has hand-painted features and molded blonde hair. She is wearing her original outfit with a cute little red felt hat with its original pom-pom. Her arms and legs are jointed using metal wires. She has a tiny mark on her face but other than that there are no conditions issues to report. Not counting her hat she measures approximately 3” tall.

The slightly taller of the two miniature wooden dolls is hand-painted and wears her original skirt. This little hand-carved wooden doll has wired joints at the shoulders and hips. She has some rubs to her face and neck, and she measures about 2 ¾” tall.

The charming little wooden peasant girl has hand-painted features and her arms move at the shoulders. She is wearing her original costume and measures 2 ½” tall. She reminds us very much of wooden pieces that were made in the Erzgebirge region of Germany.

These dolls were all part of two collections amassed by two longtime doll collectors. They would be perfect for the collector of small dolls, character dolls or dollhouseminiatures and would also look wonderful in the arms of larger bisque-head German or French dolls.
