Details:

These 4 old Clay Adamsdovetailed wood microscope slide storage boxes hold 100 slides each. The boxes appearto have been used at least twice in about the 1960’s to hold biology departmentslides. Old exterior and interior labels note general biology subjects. Theboxes later held bat gastrointestinal tissue slides.

All 4 slide boxes areClay Adams model 1600, and hold 100 standard 1 x 3 inch microscope slides each.3 boxes have identical outside dimensions, about 7.5 by 8.5 by 1.3 inches, andthe 4th is barely (about 0.1 inches) longer and wider. Each emptybox weighs about 10 ounces.

The 4 boxes are in badcosmetic condition: the black paper covers are dirty, peeling and torn. Thephotos show the outside and inside of all 4 boxes. The outsides and most insidesare marked up, and have taped on labels. The boxes are paper-covered cardboardtop and bottom, around a middle wood section with paper linings. Two of theboxes have wooden slide holder strips, and 2 have steel slide holders. The steel(?) hinges and clasps look a bit rusty, but work fine. 3 sets of the claspshinge at the top, and on one box the clasp swivels. All of the clasps, hingesand slide holders work fine.

If you care about the boxes’cosmetic appearance you could spray paint them to match your decor. These boxesare great for organizing and storing microscope slides. They can be stacked, orturned vertical and put on a bookshelf. Some people tear out the slide holderstrips and use the boxes to store pencils, fossils, or other items.
