4th Kentucky Mtd Infantry Receipt Roll forClothing#9291 4th Kentucky Mounted Infantry Receipt Roll for Clothing No. 5216.7” x 12.25” partly-printed document, a receipt roll for clothing, Sept. 30, (18)64, for soldiers of Co. “H” 4 Ky Mtd Infty, acknowledging receipt of S(ylvester). Rockwell, 2nd Lt., Co. “H” 4 Ky Mtd Infty. Seventeen soldiers are listed and have signed their names accepting the accounting for their clothing issued. Most of them received Cav. trousers, flannel shirts, drawers, stockings, Cav. great coats. “S(ylvester). Rockwell, 2nd Lt.” signed after each of their signatures. One 0.2” separation at an intersecting fold otherwise very fine. Look below to the bottom of the page for all the scans. #9291 The 4th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
The 4th Kentucky Infantry was organized at Camp Dick Robinson and mustered in for a three year enlistment on October 9, 1861 under the command of Colonel Speed Smith Fry. In February 1864, the regiment was reorganized at Lexington, Kentucky as the 4th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry.
The regiment was attached to Thomas' Command, Army of the Ohio, to November 1861. 2nd Brigade, Army of the Ohio, to December 1861. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Army of the Ohio, to September 1862. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, III Corps, Army of the Ohio, to November 1862. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, Center, XIV Corps, Army of the Cumberland, to January 1863. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, XIV Corps, to October 1863. 3rd Brigade, 3rd Division, XIV Corps, to June 1864. 1st Brigade, 1st Division, Cavalry Corps, Army of the Cumberland, to November 1864. 1st Brigade, 1st Division, Cavalry Corps, Military Division of Mississippi, to August 1865.
The 4th Kentucky Infantry mustered out of service at Macon, Georgia on August 17, 1865.
They fought at these major engagements : Battle of Mill Springs; Siege of Corinth; Battle of Perryville; Tullahoma Campaign; Battle of Chickamauga; Chattanooga Campaign; Battle of Missionary Ridge; Second Battle of Franklin; Battle of Nashville and Wilson's Raid.
