Wonderful lot of 5 pcs. Amethystglass bangles.Northern Bohemia circa 1900´s
These rare glassbangle where made in northern Bohemia between the years of 1880 to 1920. Between these years the small town of Jablonec in northern Bohemia was producingmany different kinds of pressed glass , blown glass and twisted glass bracelets all for export to India. They decorated these glass bracelets by using many different cutting techniques also painting and smelting and gilding were used with these types of glass bracelets. These were imported to India for use in cult ceremonies Hindi women would use these bracelets as a talisman to ward of harm to them and there family's. They could only use these bracelets in even numbered pairs on there body's because of the symbolic union of man and women. This description was taken from the museum of glass in Jablonec Northern Bohemia.
In the Muslim countries they were often used as a cheap gem and as interior decoration. And in the Hindu world the bangles had much wider exercise than just a decoration. A pair or more pairs of bangles worn on both woman´s hands was considered a magic symbol and a talisman of matrimonial luck. The bangles were also a popular sacrificial present thrown to sacred rivers or pulled on statues of gods.
