Mariposa is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains off Route 49 the \"Mother Lode Highway\". There are several rivers and creeks that run throughout Mariposa County including the Buckeye Creek. In the 1960′s a Gold Nugget about the size of a baseball was discovered near Downtown next to the Mariposa Creek. Since the discovery of GOLD in 1848, Gold Mining has been part of Mariposa County history. Industrial mining ended in 1913 while a few large mines continued to produce for over fifty more years.

We test pan several areas to find the best spots and if we see black sands with traces of gold, we dig it up, classify it through a 1/4 inch screen to remove large stones.
