Our sluices use black and blue loop matting that catch fine gold extremely well, much better than carpet. The black assay mat at the start gives you an idea of how much gold you are into in a particular hole you are working from. About half the gold will initially hang up in the black matting so you can gauge when a spot is really rich and when its not. The unbacked blue vinyl loop matting really is the best ive found, lets you have more peace of mind knowing that you wont loose the smaller gold if you disturb your water source or mishandle your sluice. At cleanup you will see that most all of your fine gold will be sitting underneath the blue matting in a black sand layer, trapped by the downward force of the clamped riffle tray. Catches bigger nuggets too, they will just drop right in one of the diamonds and stay there. Black matting is siliconed in place, also siliconed on edges of black mat to prevent any gold loss. Riffles are welded with side strengtheners and a rear stiffener.
