This sale is for a set of six (6) large pressed walnut medallions from the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. Each medal has very strong, crisp stamped images with text on the reverse. The obverse designs include:
The Main Building 3” diameter
Memorial Hall 3” diameter
George Washington, 2 3/8” diameter, shrinkage crack on reverse
Independence Hall, 2 3/8” diameter
Gen. Joseph Hawley, 2 3/8” diameter, President of Centennial, stain from 10 o’clock to 1 o’clock position near rim
Alfred Goshorn, 2 3/8” diameter, Director General of Centennial
The medals survived in their original slotted holder (water stained) along with the original box lid only. The box lid has a birds-eye view engraving on the underside but is water stained and the box flaps are split (2 detached & 1 missing). Please look at the photos and ask any questions.
